  1. Are you willing to share the STL files and build plan. I would like to give this a try.

    • Certainly! You can find my 3D model here: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/9062f6ac0d50b6c525b328ca/w/a6bfdfd33e46be980de27fa4/e/336338e1b9dae85ae835bd74

The PI is actually mounted with double sided tape since the room inside of the camera was very tight. But I think this depends on the camera model.

      • Can you provide details on the battery wiring and your software configuration?

      • The software commands are written here in another comment made by me. The power supply uses one of these modules: https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.amazon.de/Demarkt-DC-DC-Power-Module-1V-5V-Gr%25C3%25BCn/dp/B07DHJS5D3&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjApbfbj-3xAhVGi6QKHZL8DcEQFjAAegQICxAB&usg=AOvVaw04Ee1tadmLSDzLhGPsomPd . The output connects to the 5v of the RPI, the input is connected to a lipo cell. You can use any cell you like. I used the one from my model aircraft, Eachine Mustang P51d, you can buy thise separately.

Hi, it says view only. I want to print a few of these to experiment with, how can I? No printer here… Thanks. I’d buy parts of a kit.

When I load the link the file says view only…please please please make this shareable or load the STL to thingiverse…my 17 year old daughter is attempting to recreate this for her grandfathers 45 year old Pentax. We have a 3D printer just now way to copy your file to use.

      • Did you try to make an account on Onshape? I think then you should be able to copy and download my design. This might also be helpful in case you need to make some small modifications for the design.

Thank you for the fast response…we created a student account for her and were able to download the STL after some fiddling around with the software (must right click on the tab at the bottom in order to export). Printing it now! Also, nice software for her to do some design work on too!

      • Great! Would like to see your device once it is finished!

Printing complete and it turned out well….all parts are ordered and should arrive in the next few days…I will post when she completes it. Thanks again for this awesome project.

That’s really fantastical! Great work! I would love to do the same on my old Nikon. For video you used bulb speed on the camera? And for stills? How do you manage the pi?

    • Thanks 🙂 Yes, indeed for video I use bulb speed. Stills I haven’t yet implemented but I think you could use the software “motion” for this. Idea is that whenever the image changes (ie the shutter opens), an image is stored. This is not optimal but should work as a first workaround.

These are the command lines I used for the live video:

      PI: “raspivid -ih -n -g 120 -t 0 -w 1920 -h 1080 -fps 30 -b 10000000 -rot 90 -o – | gst-launch-1.0 -e -vvvv fdsrc ! udpsink host=192.168.0.21 port=5000”

      PC: “gst-launch-1.0 -e -v udpsrc port=5000 ! tee name=t t. ! queue ! h264parse ! avdec_h264 ! fpsdisplaysink sync=false text-overlay=false t. ! queue ! filesink location=/tmp/a.h264”

The PC pipeline also stores the video in the file /tmp/a.h264. Since this is a raw h264 stream, you would need to encapsulate this in a muxer. To do so:

      “avconv -framerate 30 -i a.h264 -codec copy a.mp4”

Great Idea, I wonder if a bigger sensor could be adapted to the raspberry PI, maybe a sensor from a dji drone. The other issue with small sensors is the optical conversion, as you seem to have a 50mm lens that converts to a 250 or 300mm.
Kudos for a great idea with huge potential.

    Where can I get one?

    Hello “befinitiv”
Please consider developing your Raspberry PI 35 mm camera solution further to become an Indiegogo or Kickstarter project !?
I think it might be worth the effort.

I meant, parts or a kit. The model doesn’t seem to be downloadable.

  6. Hello: First of all, congratulations on the invention of this gadget that can resurrect several analog cameras that are saved.
Question: can you buy this item somewhere mounted cartridge type reel, for example the Kodac Instamatic, I mean open the back of the camera and instead of putting a reel, put this device, and take pictures with any lens? ??
If so, where can I buy it, assembled, as a cartridge, if it exists, or is it a toy only for electronics ???
If it is sold as a cartridge, I can assure you that it will have a very great success, because there are still many of us who have analog equipment and it is a shame not to be able to use equipment that was much better built, of much higher optical quality, and at least Those of us who are old photographers, with old cameras, would be like rejuvenating again.
You have the video also edited in Spanish ??? And you have some kind of manual that can understand what it says well, because I don’t understand English.
Waiting for your pleasant news to know a little more about this gadget, receive a cordial greeting
